With all the changes taking place in the Downtown Orlando area and Central Florida, the City of Orlando and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) recognized the need to comprehensively review transportation issues facing Downtown Orlando.

Downtown Orlando is experiencing unprecedented growth. Existing businesses and institutions are growing and new residents are settling in. Each month, increasing numbers of development projects are being proposed. Meeting the future transportation needs for this core area and adjacent neighborhoods is essential in sustaining a vibrant setting where residents can live, work and play; businesses want to locate; and that visitors choose as a destination.

A comprehensive review of transportation issues will not only focus on Orlando's core, but will also extend beyond the traditional Downtown boundaries to include nearby activity centers, such as: Thornton Park, the Citrus Bowl, Orlando Regional Medical Center, and Florida Hospital/ Loch Haven Park.

The primary issues include:

  • Pedestrians
  • Transit
  • Roadways
  • Bicyclists
  • Parking
  • Freight Movement
