                                  National Night Out -2010

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 3, 2010) –City officials, the Orlando Police Department and Orlando Fire Department will participate in the 27th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3, 2010.

More than 35.2 million people in 11,125 communities will celebrate National Night Out, in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. The celebration will include promoting police-community partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood safety. City officials will join the Neighborhood Watch staff in visiting neighborhood block parties throughout Orlando.

This nation-wide community-oriented event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and locally by Target, Orlando Health, CBS Outdoor, Z88.3, SODO, CBS Radio, Universal Studios, Sea World Parks and Entertainment, Loew’s Hotels, Publix, The Peabody, The Rosen Plaza Hotel, OUC, Kohl’s and ADT. The Orlando Police Department brings neighbors together for a crime and safety awareness night, with the help of these sponsors. Neighborhood Watch groups around the city will hold rallies within their neighborhood to increase crime awareness in their community. Last year, Orlando came in third place nationally for the number of neighborhood groups and residents participating in the event.

The top three Neighborhood Watch block parties will be visited by the official National Night Out Caravan on this great night. The caravan will include Mayor Buddy Dyer, Police Chief Val B. Demings, Deputy Fire Chief John McCormack, Neighborhood Watch Staff and ADT. In addition, the winning Watch areas will receive a cash prize to be used for party expenses. First place will receive $300 donated by Orlando Health, $200 donated by the Orlando Utilities Commission and $100 donated by Kohl’s.

5:15 – 5:45 Orlando Police Department Headquarters Citizen Police Academy Alumni host a block party for our the OPD officers

6:05 – 6:25pm Island Club Apartments 1st Place National Night Out winner

**6:35 – 6:25pm Metrowest Masters Association 3rd Place National Night Out winner

7:15 – 7:35pm College Park - 834 N. Westmoreland 2nd Place National Night Out winner
