School Crossing Guard Program


Position Requirements
:

Must have the ability to stand, walk, and raise hands for extended periods of time, in sometimes adverse conditions such as inclement weather, loud noise, fumes or airborne particles, and high traffic volumes. (The conditions noted are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job, but does not exclude other possible conditions.) Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, as well as hear and visually observe vehicular and pedestrian traffic activity. Must be able to comprehend and communicate in English, both written and verbally. Employees must be observant and safety-oriented. Employment is conditional based on candidate's ability to pass a physical agility test, drug screening, and completion of the state-mandated training for School Crossing Guards. Must obtain the Florida School Crossing Guard Certification and re-certify annually. Must have reliable transportation.

Application Processing Instructions:

  • Download and complete the Application for Employment form (link below).

  • The Application form must be legible and complete.

  • If you have a Post Office Box, you must include your physical address on the application as well.

  • A background investigation will be conducted by the Orlando Police Department. Neither convicted felons nor those convicted of misdemeanors involving moral turpitude will be eligible for employment.

  • Once the background investigation has been satisfactorily completed, an employment interview will be conducted by the Traffic Safety Coordinator.
