Frequently Asked Questions

Around the Station

How do I report a crime, suspicious incident, etc.?

If you are in the city limits of Orlando, dial 911. Even if you do not think it is an emergency, use 911 because this reduces the amount of information the call taker has to enter into the computer. The call taker will determine the degree of urgency your call requires by the information they get from you. If you are outside our City limits and need to report an incident that occurred within the City limits, call 321-235-5300.

Criminal incidents that occur outside the city limits of Orlando must be reported to the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction where the incident occurred.

How can I contact the officer that investigated a crime against me or an accident I was in?

Telephone our Communications division at 321-235-5300. If the officer is on duty at that time, a message will be forwarded to the officer to call you when he/she completes the call they are on. If the officer is not on duty, you will be forwarded to their supervisor's voice mail. Leave your name, phone number, the best time to call you back, and the purpose of your call. Be sure to include your case number . (Just a hint, you can improve your chances of speaking directly with the officer if you call at the same time of day you originally dealt with that officer.

How do I make a complaint on a member of the Orlando Police Department?

If you feel an officer acted improperly, there are two ways to make a complaint. If you know who the employee's supervisor is, you may contact him/her directly by telephoning 321-235-5300. If you do not know who the supervisor is, but know the officer’s name, the call taker can tell you who the officer’s supervisor is. Do you sell used police cars, motorcycles, unclaimed evidence, etc?

We also auction unclaimed items found in our evidence room, with the exception of bicycles, which are donated to a local charity. The auctions are scheduled on an as needed basis and are advertised through the local media and on the City’s web page several weeks before the auction date. The City’s web site address is: http://www.cityoforlando.net or call 407-246-2297.

Can I get extra patrol for my residence while I am away on vacation?

Our patrol officers patrol each neighborhood frequently; however, due to the high demand for police services, we cannot accept the responsibility for the security of each individual residence. We encourage residents to become active members of Citizens for Neighborhood Watch, and suggest you get to know your neighbors and ask them to pick up your newspapers and mail when you are away. This is actually more effective because your neighbors will notice when something is amiss at your home more quickly. They know better what is "normal" in and around your property. You may find other useful hints to better prepare for a vacation on our website at: http://www.cityoforlando.net/police/vacation.htm.

Can I get an officer to escort me to the bank for a deposit?

We simply do not have the manpower to efficiently honor such requests from the thousands of businesses in Orlando. We do understand the concern when such a request is made, and we urge business owners to plan ahead and coordinate with a private security company or armored car service.

(back to FAQs)

Where can I find the social service organization I need for my specific problem?

Telephone “We Care” at 407-425-2624. They will assess your individual needs and direct you to the agency that can best help you. You may find other useful telephone numbers at our Telephone Numbers web page.

Where do I complain about ongoing drug sales at a residence or business in Orlando?

If the address is within the city limits of Orlando, you may leave the information on our CRACK TIP-LINE at 407-246-CRAK (407-246-2725). While the information may be left anonymously, we may need more information. A return phone number and name will be most helpful. Be sure to include the exact address, descriptions of the people involved (names if known), involved vehicle descriptions, primary times/days of activity and description of activity.

If this activity is occurring outside the city limits of Orlando, you are urged to contact the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction in the area of occurrence.
