demonstrates how plants recommended in Growing Greener:
Nature in the City can be used in a common yard.
The plants selected are based on how much sun each part of
the yard receives and the desire to create an attractive and
functional landscape.
The backyard consists of
plants that are sun tolerant, as this part of yard has no shade.
A hedge surrounds the perimeter to provide privacy;
colorful foliage in the planting beds creates focal points and the
vines traversing the trellis enhance the entry feature to the
backyard.
In the front yard, the canopy and understory trees
create plentiful shade. This allows the front yard to
support shade and semi-shade plants. The trees that frame the house emphasize the front door and
the groundcovers, while the shrubs delineate the edge of the yard
and the pathway.
