Orlando Supports Urayasu
浦安
Several members of our local community
have expressed an interest in making a collective community donation
to provide aid to Orlando's Sister City, Urayasu, Japan after the recent
devastating earthquake.
Thanks to a generous donation from Track Shack, we were able to order Orlando Supports Urayasu 浦安 adult awareness bracelets to be sold for $5 each. The bracelets will be sold at this year's Fireworks at the Fireworks at the Fountain event on July 4 at Lake Eola Park from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friends of Urayasu are excited to sell the bracelets and raise awareness about Orlando's Sister City to the nearly 150,000 expected attendees. All proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will be kept in the City's Strengthen Orlando, Inc. 501(c)3 account until the City makes a community collective donation to the City of Urayasu. Please join us at Fireworks at the Fountain and make a donation to provide aid to Orlando's Sister City during this time of need. For questions, please contact Kathy DeVault at 407.246.3109 or kathleen.devault@cityoforlando.net.
Orlando and Urayasu Background Urayasu has been a Sister City of Orlando’s since 1989,
and is one of our most active Sister City relationships. Urayasu sends
friendship and cultural delegations to Orlando at least three times each
year: · Urayasu International
Friendship Association (UIFA) travels to Orlando each February. the UIFA
is a group of adults (usually 15-20) who visits the Public Library, the
Orange County Regional History Center and a local elementary school among
other places during their visit.
· Urayasu Youth is a group of middle/high school students (usually 15-20) who travel to Orlando each March. They also visit the Public Library, the Orange County Regional History Center and the Boys and Girls Club among other places. · Urayasu Runners Club usually
sends four runners to Orlando each year to run in the OUC Half Marathon.
The Orlando Runners Club hosts these runners in their homes and shows them
around our City. The residents of Urayasu have been very touched by the
concern they are receiving from Orlando. Thoughts and prayers for our
Sister City residents are appreciated during this difficult time.
