Recreation Programs for Children and Adults with Disabilities

NEON CLUB: The Neon Club is a recreation program that provides a social environment with planned activities for developmentally disabled adults over the age of 16. Neon Club activities and dances are offered twice a month and have over 300 of participants.

History of the NEON CLUB: The Jaycee’s Wives Auxiliary founded the Neon Club, originally named Night Crawlers by its members, in 1965. It started with 20 members meeting at a church. As the membership grew, they moved their meetings to the Ben White Raceway Recreation Center. In 1972, the City of Orlando Recreation Bureau accepted the sponsorship and supervision of this club and it became the first recreation program for mentally disabled individuals. In 1976, the program moved from the Ben White Raceway to its present location at the Loch Haven Park Neighborhood Center.

UCP is operating a K-12th grade summer program for children with special needs at various locations through Central Florida. Call 407-852-3300 or visit the web site ucpcfl.org.
