PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts will provide a unique, world-class destination to showcase the region’s performance groups, including the Orlando Philharmonic, Orlando Ballet, Orlando Opera, Festival of Orchestras and other regional groups and touring shows.

The Performing Arts Center will include:
– 2,800 seat Amplified Hall for large scale productions

Performing Arts Center Concept Plan
– 1,800 seat Acoustical Hall for concert, opera, dance and drama
– 300 seat Multi-Purpose Hall for small groups
– Rehearsal Hall
– Common areas, including plaza, lobby, box office, catering and food service, offices, administrative and service areas
– Education space

The project has developed benchmarks for halls, façade, public space and lobby quality. The planned location is a 2-block, 9-acre site bordered by Orange Avenue, South Street, Rosalind Avenue and Anderson Street. Plans call for the Performing Arts Center to be surrounded by commercial mixed-use development.

Estimated design and construction cost for the Performing Arts Center is $354 million, plus $71 million for land contribution/acquisition, road and site improvements. Design, construction and operation of the Performing Arts Center will be managed by Orlando Performing Arts Center, Inc. (OPAC), a non-profit corporation, with oversight from the City. Design is expected to take 22 months and construction about 34 months with a target opening in 2012.
