Pedal Into Work with Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer for National Bike Month

WHAT:
In celebration of National Bike Month in May, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer is encouraging all citizens in Central Florida to ride a bike to work and take an active role in reducing our impact on the environment.

Mayor Dyer will celebrate “Bike to Work Day” by leading a bike ride from Dartmouth Park in the College Park neighborhood to City Hall in Downtown Orlando. As part of the event, participants will also receive coffee or tea from Starbucks, bike tune-ups from Kyle’s Bike Shop and a one-way LYNX bus pass to College Park.

Last year, this annual event had 190 cyclists participate.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Orlando has been designated a “Bicycle Friendly Community” consistently since 2000 and is home to more than 280 miles of urban bicycling trails, signed routes and lanes and a designated Bicycle Friendly Community. The City promotes bicycling as a form of transportation by incorporating complete streets policies to make roads safe and accessible to all users, and created the “Got Bikes?..Ride ‘em” community action presentation to educate cyclists and motorists about history, safety and benefits of bicycling. The City also participates in the Pedal for Pride bike ride with the City Kidz and City Teenz of Parramore, and works directly with the Orlando Police Department to provide education, safety training and enforcement for bicycling.

WHERE:
Mayor Dyer and Orlando citizens will leave from Dartmouth Park (822 Dartmouth Street) with a final destination at City Hall (400 South Orange Avenue).

WHEN:
Friday, May 25, 2012
Participants will gather at Dartmouth Park starting at 7:30 a.m.
Ride starts at 8:00 a.m. at Dartmouth Park with arrival at City Hall at approximately 8:30 a.m.
