Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer Honors Local
Veterans with Wreaths Across America Day at Greenwood Cemetery
|
WHAT: |
On Saturday, December 11, Orlando Mayor Buddy
Dyer will join members of the community at Greenwood
Cemetery to honor veterans during the holiday season as part
of the national
Wreaths Across America Day.
The Wreaths Across America ceremony honors veterans
from all branches of the military: Army, Marine Corps, Navy,
Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA. At
Greenwood Cemetery 250 wreaths will be placed in the
American Legion/Military section of the cemetery.
Wreaths Across America Day began 19 years ago when
the Worcester Wreath Company from Harrington, Maine
initiated a tradition of donating and placing wreaths on the
headstones of our nation’s fallen heroes at Arlington
National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
“More than 100 volunteers from local veterans units and
civilian organizations will assist in the actual placing of
the 250 wreaths,” said Steve Noble, Commandant of the
Corporal Larry E. Smedley Marine Corps League Detachment 64
and a member of Orlando Mayor Dyer’s Veteran’s Council.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
