Amway Center Buses to Hit the Roads in Downtown Orlando
New hybrid electric LYMMO buses will feature art from the new Amway Center

WHAT: Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orlando City Commissioners, LYNX Chairman Carlton Henley and Orlando Magic President Alex Martins will officially unveil the newly-designed Amway Center LYMMO buses tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22.

Three pieces from the Amway Center Art Collection will be wrapped on the outside of the LYMMO fleet showcasing some of the local and national art on display in the building.

In addition to the three Amway Center Art Collection buses, the DDB will have two LYMMO buses dedicated to promoting the experience before and after events at the Amway Center. These bus wraps are part of the Downtown Development Board’s larger effort to promote Downtown restaurants, businesses and retail opportunities.

These buses are part of LYNX’s new fleet of nine hybrid electric LYMMO buses that will go into circulation starting Thursday, September 23. The conversion of the LYMMO fleet from diesel operated to hybrid electric will save 46,500 gallons of gasoline annually and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 4,086 tons.

In conjunction with the development of the Amway Center, the City’s transportation and planning experts worked to create a seamless transportation system. The resulting transportation network incorporates multiple options and choices including an improved road network, a pedestrian-friendly culture, parking that is easy to access and mass transit options like the new LYMMO buses unveiled today.

WHEN: Wednesday, September 22, 2010
10:30 a.m.
