Mayor Dyer Invites the News Media to Participate
in Interactive Hurricane Preparedness Training

WHAT:

It’s officially Hurricane Season and Mayor Dyer is encouraging all residents and business to be prepared. To emphasis the importance of readiness, Mayor Dyer is inviting the news media to participate with him and City of Orlando staff in an interactive hurricane exercise.

On Thursday, “Hurricane Zachary” will hit the City of Orlando. During this training exercise, the Emergency Operations Center will be activated and City staff will implement a plan for each of the four phases of the emergency management cycle – preparation, response, recovery and mitigation. The group will respond to a series of actions to help mitigate and minimize the impact a disaster would have in our community.

“As the City of Orlando prepares for this year’s hurricane season, I want to encourage Orlando residents to get prepared, create a disaster supply kit and develop and test family plans,” said Orlando Mayor Dyer. “It is our goal to prevent loss of life and to minimize damage caused by hurricanes.”
