Mayor Buddy Dyer will get an up-close look at the work
the men and women of OPD do to keep our kids safe. Mayor Dyer will work
along with Officer Jesse Day from the Orlando Police Department in his
role as the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Glenridge Middle School.
Police SROs are responsible for police-related
activities involving the school to which they are assigned. The SRO’s
role is to serve as the police department on campus. They establish and
maintain a rapport with the students, faculty and the surrounding
community. Building a relationship is accomplished through after school
programs, classes such as Gang Resistance Education and Training or
G.R.E.A.T., summer programs and knowledge of students' individual
desires, goals and family situations.
SRO’s also serve as mentors and guidance counselors.
The SRO is an integral extension of the police department that can
positively influence youth at an early and meaningful period of their
lives.
History of Work-Alongs
As part of Mayor Dyer’s commitment to providing citizens with the high
quality service they have come to expect, he participates in monthly
work-alongs with various City staff. Mayor Dyer has worked with Code
Enforcement Officers, gone door-to-door with Orlando Police Officers
delivering valuable City information to residents in the Parramore
Heritage Neighborhood, assisted City staff and children of the Nap Ford
Community School in planting a community garden and worked in the
customer service and development review areas of Permitting Services.
