The Orlando Sentinel Reported: Even before the lightning strike in August 2009, the 53-year-old fountain was showing its age. Many of its lights no longer worked, pumps weren't working properly and its sea foam-green plastic shell was cracked and faded.

The renovation will include a new exterior frame, Plexiglas skin, lighting, pumps, piping, electrical controls and spray jets. Additional colored lights will be added to the fountain's upper and lower rings. The overhaul will add more sophisticated lighting that can be programmed to change with music played through speakers around the park.

The fountain's electric bill will show big savings from new energy-efficient pumps and LED lights instead of incandescent bulbs.
