Commissioner Phil Diamond's
District 1 Spring Picnic March 14, 2009  Commissioner Phil Diamond welcomes district residents to the Spring picnic in Amhurst Park.  There were lots of fun things to do for all the children who attended.  There were hula hoop contests too!  The Orlando Firefighters are always the great cooks at all of our picnics.  The Orlando Police Department's Citizens On Patrol volunteers always have a booth set up to share with citizens how they can get involved.  Some of our great volunteers who help every year serve the residents at the picnics.  Hundreds of guests enjoyed the entertainment and beautiful Orlando weather.  It was a wonderful day for donations....by day's end, all the barrels were full with non-perishable goods for Second Harvest Food Bank!  A young resident getting his face painted by Sally Mae the Clown.  Even Spiderman joined us!  Boy Scout Troop 202 attended the picnic and earned credit toward their Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge.  Commissioner Diamond acknowledges picnic volunteers and guests.  District 1 City Commissioner Phil Diamond, District 6 City Commissioner Sam Ings, OFD Assistant Chief Tom Moise, Deborah Girard, Deputy CAO, Police Chief Val Demings, and District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz enjoyed visiting with the community.  Orlando Police Department K-9 Unit, Sergeant Daniel Schad and Officer Robert Brown provided a demonstration with their 4-legged partners.  Sergeant Daniel Schad and his K-9 dog, Bandit, demonstrate their powerful take down methods  Horses from the Orlando Police Mounted Unit were a favorite with the children.  The horses enjoyed nose rubs from young city residents.  Robert Bowden, Director of Harry P. Leu Gardens, offers advice to a young gardner.  Everyone enjoys the limbo!  A new, improved, and easier, limbo move!  Commissioner Diamond with a pleasant District 1 family.  Cynthia Wilson, Aide to Commissioner Sam Ings, Jeanne Rosenthal, Aide to Commissioner Phil Diamond, and Sandy Johnson, former Aide to Commissioner Diamond.  The Orlando Science Center held a raffle for children's books and games. Joining Commissioner Diamond on stage is our DJ, Glenn Poczik, and Alayna Little from the Orlando Science Center.  Orlando Police Chief Val Demings is greeted by Commissioner Diamond and Officer Edgar Malave, District 1 Police Liaison Officer.  Good family fun!
