The Mayor’s 3rd floor Gallery at Orlando
City Hall is pleased to present “Images of Orlando” part of
the FloridaScapes project by photographer Sherri Bunye. An
emerging artist in Central Florida, Sherri has combined her
love of both photography and Florida into FloridaScapes. A
native Floridian she has actively pursued her photography
dream for the last five years. A Fellowship Student in the
Photography Department a Crealde School of Art in 2008/09
and this year was awarded a Studio Artist position at the
school. Her photography has been accepted into Public Art
Registries, juried art shows and various exhibits throughout
Central Florida.
Of her work Sherri states, ‘ My intention
with FloridaScapes is to document the ever shanging cities
and neighborhoods along interstate 4. The current collection
includes photographs from Central Florida, and in this
exhibition Orlando in particular. Eventually I will cover
the entire 132 miles of Florida’s oldest interstate between
I-95 in Daytona and I-275 in Tampa. FloridaScapes represents
my personal perception of the area at the time the
photograph was taken. Just as black and white photography
invokes a certain connection to an image; I intentionally
take the inherent realism of photography, and at times add
impressionistic paint like look. I hope this style reveals
the beauty of the subject in an unexpected way.’
Sherri continues to be active in the
Florida art community by participating in outreach programs
such as Storytellers, Portraits of Hunger Help
Portrait-Orlando and the Snap Teen Program.
