Artist's Statement

This series is a tribute to some of the most interesting bugs around. The insects chosen are the products of countless conversations I have had over them with people who love them. As I began the task of narrowing down the selections, it was a real treat to discover what a level of respect and fascination all these subjects deserve - from the dubious honeybee to the heavy-laden rhinoceros beetle. Observing their design, colors and patterns have been a source of wonder, and by giving them center stage here in these paintings, my hope is that more of us will notice that they are just as integral to our environments as the large trees and blooming flowers where you may find them.
